News for January 2005

2005.01.31 (Monday) :: About 'About what I said...'...
I have seen the wisdom of MFC (as ironic as that sounds to me), so I will give it a shot.

Translation: I am completely re-writing JLookUp from the ground up. In MFC. And I don't know MFC. But I can guess pretty well. Sometimes.

Wish me luck... and no updates for a while I guess.

2005.01.30 (Sunday) :: About what I said...
About that whole expecting the new version soon... it's not going to work out as I had expected. I tried to implement the study list, and I totally--and I mean totally--screwed everything up. So, that sucker's going to take a lot longer to do than I had planned.

Continuing on that note, I decided to look into this whole 'MFC' thing that people on the internet seem to love so much. And... it looks like a pretty good idea. If anyone out there can teach me MFC and save me a lot of time and pain, let me know.

2005.01.24 (Monday) :: New Version
I didn't want to do it, but I was getting a lot of requests, so here's what we have so far for the next version: Version 1.0.7.5e.

Expect the real thing soon... soon...

2005.01.17 (Monday) :: The Next Update...
...will be soon! I promise.

Right now, I have a history feature in (like web-browsers have), and I've re-arranged some stuff. You'll be able to re-arrange entries in the result window... which doesn't seem important, but I plan on using the code from that window for the study list window, and for that, it will be important. I just need to make a few decisions on how I want to code it... and then I actually have to do it... and then we'll be good to go. Then I'll need to totally re-write the documentation (which is a month or so behind), and we'll be doing okay.

Before I make the huge next step, however, I'll probably totally re-do the way that entries are stored, indexing, searching, and all that good stuff. It's not as efficient as it could be, and I want to change that soon.

Also, the site will be totally re-done in CSS by Brian Duncan, so it should look pretty neat. But that's for later.

2005.01.10 (Monday) :: Searching Problem
I found the source of my searching problem, so it should be all fixed and working perfectly now. You can download the newest test version (1.0.7.5d) from the test area.

I'm serious, guys; if you find any problems, you can assume that I have no idea that they exist. Any problem that I can replicate, I tend to fix pretty fast.

2005.01.09 (Sunday) :: Searching Problem
All right... I thought that the new algorithm for wildcard searching worked perfectly... but either (1) it doesn't, or (2) I broke something important when I was fixing other things. So, what it comes down to is this: wildcard searching won't really work all that well. I hope that it's just a quick fix, and if it is, I'll try to get it done as soon as possible, but I don't really have much free time to play right now. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

2005.01.04 (Tuesday) :: Busy Time
Okay; to all of you who I promised things: I'm sorry. January is going to be exceptionally busy for me, and I can only play with JLookUp for a little bit each day (if I neglect other things), so updates will be a lot more sparse.

And, of course, there's another new test version (1.0.7.5c) in the test area. This one fixes up some a small problem with the IME of '-' and '*'.

2005.01.01 (Saturday) :: Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!

There's another new test version (1.0.7.5b) in the test area. This one fixes up some encoding issues, and it has a prettier output file.
